The Church of St. Catherine was built in 1881 next to the church of Nativity. St. Catherine can be reached from the Grotto of the Nativity by a network of caves. The interior has an aisled nave and a cross- vaulted ceiling with ribs. It is from this church that the Roman Catholic midnight mass at Christmas is broadcasted to TV networks all over the world.
